FIRST VISIT

First Visit
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. This is an important first step in allowing patients to understand what is involved in the particular type of surgery they need, and allows the doctor(s) to assess each patient’s particular needs and plan the surgery accordingly. Occasionally, some minor surgeries can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will almost always require an initial evaluation visit followed by a second appointment to provide planned treatment on another day. While we make every effort to accommodate each patient’s needs, same-day surgery is also contingent on level of urgency and schedule availability.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
  • Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable.
  • A current list of medications you are taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the consultation visit and on the day(s) of surgery. No patient under the age of 18 may legally consent to any surgical procedure. This must be done by a parent or legal guardian.

A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink for at least six hours prior to your surgery. You will also need a responsible adult to accompany you, be present at our facility during your surgery, and to drive you home afterwards.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)
