What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon?

Drs. Rawson and Braxton specialize in oral and maxillofacial surgery.  The term "oral" refers to structures of the mouth.  The term "maxillofacial" refers to the jaws and the face.  Dr. Rawson and Dr. Braxton have been specifically trained to treat conditions that occur in these areas.  Both Dr. Rawson and Dr. Braxton have earned the designation "Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon".  Selecting a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial  Surgeon means you have chosen to have your care provided by a surgeon who has met and maintains the highest professional standards of education and training in that specialty.

This advanced training has prepared Drs. Rawson and Braxton to provide a broad range of patient care.  The most common procedures performed in our practice include: removal of wisdom teeth or other non-restorable teeth, surgical correction of improperly aligned jaws, implant replacement of missing teeth, implant placement for denture retention, removal of bony and soft tissue tumors, treatment of broken facial bones and other facial injuries, treatment of temporomandibular joint problems, and treatment of dental and maxillofacial infections.  They are also trained and certified in the administration of intravenous sedation and general anesthesia, which is often used in the office to ensure the patient's comfort.
